Examining the best free agency fits for Corey Seager

Cory Seeger’s free agency is finally underway. The talented short star has just reached the peak of his sports career and is expected to attract a lot of attention in the market.

The 2020 World Series MVP will headline the free agent category which also includes the likes of Carlos Correa and Trevor Story. This means that he is unlikely to sign with a team until one of those gets his contract so he can raise his price as much as possible.

While nothing is consistent, the Seager contract projection is around $30 million annually. He is expected to sign a long-term deal with a competitor, but this may mean settling a lower amount. If not, teams like the Texas Rangers or the Chicago Cubs can look to net his pay for a bigger paycheck.

Seager is one of the best players in the world and will demand a contract that demonstrates that. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the difference that makes the most sense for him now.

4. Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers could still try to keep Cory Seeger. They were unable to agree terms for an extension through the season and trading with Trea Turner largely means they have no intention of engaging in a bidding war with the other competitors.

But the Dodgers will give Seager the greatest chance of winning another ring. He can settle for a little less and stay home to make a deadly duo with Turner. It’s a huge stretch but it’s a fan favorite in Los Angeles and we’ve seen these things happen before.

3. Tigers

When it comes to Seager’s contract prediction, most people think he’ll just take the money regardless of fit or chances of winning another ring. If so, he could also join AJ Hinch and the Detroit Tigers, a team with plenty of cash to spend.

He heard one interesting possibility: Could Justin Verlander return to the Tigers? He loved it there, and obviously has an association with AJ Hinch as well. Detroit is still shopping.

The Tigers are said to be looking to sign Carlos Correa, but they could run in Seeger if they hit Puerto Rico. They have a bright future ahead of them with a rotation of young and up-and-coming, but it will be some time before they can compete at the highest level.

2. Astros

The Houston Astros are almost like locking in Carlos Correa in free agency, and it’s not just about the money. Apparently, the Puerto Rican star is looking forward to a fresh start elsewhere even if the Astros can live up to his steep salary claims.

The Astros will have a hard time trying to fill that void and will likely go after Trevor Story and Corey Seager for that. They’ve had two wins away from another World Championship trophy and were the team to beat in MLS, so it would make sense for him.

1. Yankees

Among Seager’s free fit agents, no other team makes more sense than the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers have been craving a first-class short service since Derek Jeter’s retirement and their refusal to trade Trevor Story this season makes us believe they’d go on completely free agency.

The Yankees and Dodgers play SS Corey Seager. For a major free agent, this tandem of notable teams is like the Holy Grail.

The Yankees have enough money to give him, and only a few pieces separates them from being a true competitor.

Seager’s addition will allow Gleyber Torres to move to second base, a place where he isn’t exposed to much defense. Aaron Boone’s team already has a lot of firepower and that would be a huge boost to their chances.
