L.A.’s Staples Center will be renamed Crypto.com Arena.

The Staples Center, home to the Los Angeles Lakers and other professional sports teams, said Tuesday it will rename it to Crypto.com Arena, a Singapore-based cryptocurrency platform.

The rebranding is the latest example of a company at the center of a technology boom pushing to rebrand a well-known sports arena. In a statement issued late Tuesday in Los Angeles but dated Wednesday, Arena said the change will take effect on Christmas Day.

The statement did not say how much Crypto.com, which was founded in 2016, paid for the deal.

Crypto.com has entered into a 20-year naming rights agreement with AEG, the Los Angeles-based entertainment company that operates the venue. The AEG is controlled by Philip F. Anschutz, the billionaire investor.

The arena has been named after Massachusetts-based office supply company Staples since it opened in 1999. In addition to the Lakers, it hosts another NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers, as well as the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
