Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday he would not let interest rates crush people and would continue his fight against them “until the end,” a day before a major central bank policy meeting at which interest rates could be lowered further.

In comments that pushed the lira to a record high, Erdogan told members of his ruling Justice and Development Party that he would take the interest rate burden off people and urged business owners to invest, hire and increase exports.
